Miryam Andrea Hortua |
Andrea obtained her Ph.D. in biological sciences from Universidad de los Andes. Her doctoral thesis was on the kinetic and inhibitor characterization, and localization of the dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHOD) from Toxoplasma gondii, She has done training visits in three laboratories: with David Evans at Wayne State University (Detroit, USA) where she worked on the analysis of the mechanism of a Type II multifunctional dihydroorotase from Aquifex aeolicus, with Monica Loffler at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry, Philipps-University Marburg (Marburg, Germany) where she worked with electron DHOD acceptor and inhibition assays, and with Vernon Carruthers at the University of Michigan Medical School (Ann Arbor, USA) where she purified of anti-TgDHOD antibodies and learned in vitro cell cultures techniques for T. gondii. Her most recent work involves testing candidate compounds for the inhibition of TgDHOD. She will be starting her post-doctoral studies in the laboratory of Dr. David Bzik at Dartmouth Medical School, NH, shortly. Email: Esta dirección electrónica esta protegida contra spam bots.
